Oplan Tokhang: Death Tolls in Cebu

Tokhang has been one of the top priorities of President Rodrigo Duterte who promise to abolish all illegal drugs that has led to thousands of extrajudicial killings, ever since his rise to power in 2016.

The Philippine government has relaunched the controversial anti-drug campaign amidst the concern that the police-led operations have led to massive human rights abuses.

As the ‘War On Drugs’ still continues, the situation in Central Visayas of the barangays for Cebu has 47.3% affectation rate on drug-related incidents. And the accounted number of 1208 barangays, and a total of 569 barangays that were affected.

Notable for Region VII, Cebu has been publicize as having the highest drug rate in the country. As President Duterte proclaimed back in March 2017 at the 10th National Congress of the Philippine Councilors’ League that the drug rate in Cebu is from 60-70%.

The number of Drug Related Fatalities in Region VII  from May 10, 2016 to January 30, 2018 had the total of 365. As the highest ‘death toll’ recorded in Cebu City.

President Duterte has declared Cebu has indeed become “a bedrock of illegal drug trading as these places were being used as a shipment point to different parts of the Visayas.”

In research, Cebu’s drug related fatalities from June 5, 2016 to May 10, 2018 accounted in 85 barangays, a total of 101 deaths were computed and found. And Barangay Calamba rank as the highest number of deaths of 8, followed by Barangay Duljo with the total of 7.

The affected barangays with the range of at least 1 to 3 deaths and the highest as 8, belongs to each of the 50 barangays. And 35 barangays  for police-opreated drug bust or confiscated shabu, marijuana or fire arms, of surrendered or arrested drug pusher.

The War on Drugs of the Duterte administration and the scale of the anti-drugs campaign is crucial so that the people  may have knowledge of their political and civil rights amidst the ongoing drug war.

 

 

 

 

Drug Bust : 2 killed, 1 wounded

Two suspected drug users were killed and the other was wounded amidst the ‘shootout’ at Barangay Duljo Fatima, Sitio Panaghiusa St. Cebu City.

Joseph 44, and Romeo Oralde were killed, and wounded Israel Patunob, 37  was rushed to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG), Regional Intelligence Division (RID), Police Regional Drug Enforcement (PDEU)-7 conducted a drug bust operation and confiscated 2 pistols, and a 5.9 million worth of shabu, scientifically known as methamphetamine hydrochloride.
